Otter

November 28th, 2013 - Welcome, Otter !
of Hanko, Finland

Otter is our club's first member from Finland

Rod and Otter on Triumph Rocket III at Hanko Winter 2009

Otter's guardian tells us:

Otter is not only a biker dog but also a jump pilot dog. Otter started his biker career when he got fed up running behind his guardian’s bike from the skydiving club house to the jump plane. Then he expanded his territory outside the airfield by riding the bike home and rest is history. Skydivers will understand how Otter got his name, which is not a normal K9 one.

The first two seasons Otter rode a 1600cc Yamaha Wild Star but the last nine seasons he has been riding a 2300 cc Triumph Rocket III. Biking season in Finland is relatively short but Otter clocks about 1500-2000 miles every year.

When riding the Wild Star for longer distances Otter had a tank bag. However the Triumph Rocket III tank is not suitable for a bag to be used. Otter normally rides free but for longer rides on highway or when we ride at downtown Helsinki Otter uses a harness with a belly strap to the tank cover.

There have been several articles in Finnish newspapers and magazines about Otter, both as a biker dog and a jump pilot dog. Otter has briefly appeared in a music video where his guardian had a bigger role as a pilot: Otter in music viseo

Liberate a Dog !

We'd like to remind people that there are a lot of wonderful dogs waiting to be adopted at your local animal shelter.
You can also offer to volunteer to walk sheltered dogs while they await adoption.
The dogs love getting to leave their cages for a walk!
Please visit our adoption page for featured "Shelter-of-the-Month" and list of places to adopt.
